Fellowship in Optometry
The institute has been successfully conducting a fellowship course in Optometry for interested candidates.
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed Baccalaureate in Optometry / Diploma in optometry or Diploma in Ophthalmic assistant courses with an aggregate of 50% of marks.
Curriculum:During this fellowship students will be rotated in all departments like Refraction, Contact lenses, Orthoptics, Perimetry, Biometry, Lasik, Community optometry and Low vision aids. Theory classes will also be held covering all relevant aspects. Clinical skills in using state of the art equipments in all sub specialties would also be taught.
Stipend: Stipend of Rs 2500 per month will be paid to the candidates. Free Accommodation and subsidized boarding will also be provided.
Internship - Fellowship in Optometry.
Another curriculum where we allow a lateral entry to our Fellowship program , which inducts students who have succesfully completed third year of Optometry curriculum and opting to do internship outside is also being offered. During this program, in the first year (internship) the students will be simultaneously taught the theoretical & practical aspects in Optometry as mentioned in the curriculum .After the successful completion of internship, in the second year, students will be given free hand in taking care of regular out patients & all diagnostic procedures.Besides, they have to be involved in the routine academic activities of the Optometry department like seminars and projects. Clinical skills in using state of the art equipments in all sub specialties would also be taught.
After completing the Fellowship,they will be absorbed in our hospitals for a period of two years as a full time Optometrist with a proper pay package and perks.
During the entire period of their stay, free accommodation & subsidized food will be provided.Though they will not be paid any stipend during the internship period, a monthly stipend of Rs.2500/- will be paid in the second year.The academic year will start from July every year.
The filled in applications along with relevant photo copies of certificates
and a DD for Rs 50/- drawn in favour of The Eye Foundation
should reach us before 31st October 2008.
Fellowship in Cornea

Programme Highlights

Duration : 1 Year
Clinical Exposure : Various Corneal Disorders & External Eye Disorders
Investigations : Corneal Topography, Pachymetry, Aberrometry, Specular Microscopy, Automated Keratometry, IOL Master, Work Up for Refractive Procedures, Corneal Ulcer Work Up, Eye Bank
Procedures (Observation/Assisted/Wet Lab/Individual Performance) : Penetrating Keratoplasty, DALK, Pterygium Excision with Autograft, Procedures related to External Eye Diseases, Corneal Refractive Procedures - LASIK, PRK, Epilasik, Intralase, Phakic IOL’s, Refractive cataract surgery.
Programme will Involve Case Discussions, Seminars, Clinical Meeting Presentations, Periodic assessment and Final Exit Exam to be conducted by Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.

Advanced Diploma in Ophthalmic Care Management.

The Course is designed to impart basic medical knowledge, general nursing
care, ophthalmic nursing care with special emphasis on practical application
and community care, learning about all types of ophthalmological instruments,
including the latest state of the art equipments being used for treatment
of various eye diseases like Glaucoma, Cataract, Retinal diseases squint,
etc. It also includes Phamacological Ophthalmology and theatre nursing
care including theatre sterilization before ophthalmological surgery.
They will also be sent to rural and urban eye camps and school screening
projects. On completion of the course, the candidate will be completely
knowledgeable about ophthalmic nursing in theory and practical as well
as in community nursing care.
Admission criteria
Any candidate who has passed +2 or an equivalent course. (graduates
can also apply)
Both male and female candidates aged 17 years and above are eligible
to apply.
Physical fitness certificate to be obtained from a Registered Medical
Practioner.
