There are steps that you can take to prevent or delay vision loss, and manage your condition and treatment:
Regular Screening: Get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. If you have diabetic retinopathy, you may need to have eye exams more often.
Control Blood Glucose: Keep your blood glucose levels as close to normal as you can. Hyperglycemia initiates many other risk factors, so controlling blood glucose can prevent other diabetic complications and slows down or even prevents the development of retinopathy.
Control Blood Pressure: Studies have demonstrated that keeping your blood pressure as close to normal as possible reduces the risk of complications in the microvascular system by roughly 33%.
Control Blood Lipids: Keeping your cholesterol levels as close to normal as possible reduces the risk of complications. High levels of total cholesterol or triglycerides can increase the risk of developing DME by two- or three-fold.
Swelling of the macula reduces visual acuity, blurs sight, and ultimately causes severe vision loss.

On 16th March 2021 I got operated my right eye for better vision and cataract in The Eye Foundation Coimbatore. Dr Chitra Ramamurthy, who is a well experienced one, conducted Laser operation to my right eye. It was an amazing experience of painless and fearless procedure through advanced laser treatment. I've gone to other eye hospitals and doctors in Telangana and Tamil Nadu, but this is the most efficient and best hospital I've ever visited. Everything here is so systematic that the data of your issue is transferred from one block to another in no time using computers. From the beginning i.e. consultation , counselling to the surgery, everything is so clear and supportive to the patients. Dr. Chitra Ramamurthy is Very Kind, Supportive, Friendly and talks in a manner to instill Courage in the Patients. Counselling done by Dr Ram, Support and Empathy showed by Dr Pallavi, friendly talk and clear guidance by Ms Soubhagya (through telephone) are unforgettable. From reception to operation theatre everything is hygienic and good. The canteen here is well maintained and the food is really good. I was referred by my endocrinologist Dr.Niran to Eye Foundation. It was my first time visit for a diabetic retinopathy check up. Called the reception at 9 am for appointment and was allowed for 11.30 as requested. Reception staff very polite and did their job in few mins. Immediately was taken for preliminary eye check up. Within 10 mins all was done by the Doctor and advised to take drops for dilation and wait for half an hour. After around 40 mins was called to be examined by specialist Dr. Naik He was extremely cordial and completed the check up and handed me the report which fortunately says no issues due to diabetic. However the Doctor advised me to have a periodical check up every half year, which is due to two reasons (I) I am a diabetic and (II) I am nearing 60 and it requires regular check up to prevent any damage. I am fully satisfied with the facility which does not give the feeling like you are in a hospital type atmosphere at all. I am so delighted with the way every staff member starting from reception to doctor, treated me with their politeness and expertise. I thank each and everyone who gave their best of services today. My mother recently underwent cataract surgery of both her eyes under the supervision of Dr Sean. We are really happy with his professionalism and the services provided by other doctors and nurses of the hospital. Dr Sean was patient enough to listen to our queries and explained everything to us thoroughly. She is recovering fast now. My mother also had a retinal surgery done last year, since she had a very wide macular hole on her right eye. Dr Adarsh Naik performed the surgery with precision and utmost care.
