Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure performed by our highly skilled ophthalmologists. The process typically involves:

  • Numbing the eye: The most important thing is comfort. With anesthetic eye drops, you would feel no pain due to the procedure.
  • Making a tiny incision: Either with advanced laser technology or a minute blade, an extremely small incision is made in your cornea-the clear dome which lies at the front of your eye.
  • Breaking up the cataract: The sound energy in the form of soft ultrasonic waves or a laser vaporizes cloudy lenses that gets fragmented and becomes dust like.
  • Removing the fragments: In a very delicate manner, the surgeon uses this specialized suction device to remove these fragments using pinpoint accuracy.
  • Implanting a new lens: A small clear intraocular lens (IOL), normally artificial is surgically positioned inside where the lining once was.
  • Sealing the incision: The cut is usually self-sealing so no stitches are required.
