Diplomate of National Board of Ophthalmology
The Eye Foundation has been granted 4 seats for DNB course, two for
the
full 3 year course and the other two for post DO students.
Eligibility Criteria
A) Candidates who have passed their MBBS from a recognized university
with DNB post. I year Primary passed can apply for the 3 year training
programme in DNB. There are 2 seats available in this category.
B) Candidates who have passed their post graduate diploma in
ophthalmology from a recognized university and recognized by MCI can
apply for
the 2 year training programme inn DNB. There are 2 seats available per
year in this category.
Candidates are paid monthly stipend in accordance with the DNB norms
in
addition to free single accommodation.
Teaching curriculum for DNB is strict and well structured. Guided by
the specialists in various subspecialities, candidates handle patients
independently. Regular teaching programs are strictly scheduled with
exposure and training in anterior segment surgeries at the charitable
wing
of The Eye Foundation, named Rajalakshmi Nethralaya. The well equipped
library with standard books, journals, CDs and internet access is in
provision. Candidates learn to perform and interpret various new
diagnostic techniques in various subspecialities of ophthalmology.
OPTOMETRY FELLOWSHIP
For millions of people around the world receiving quality eye care
is
an enormous struggle. In some countries Optometry does not exist, or
is
not accessible. Lack of educational programs, poor -.infrastructure,
technical back up and financial constraints have contributed to this
struggle.
The importance of role of Optometry in the delivery of ophthalmic care
has been well established. For our growing population crossing one
billion, approximately 1, 00,000 more Optometrists or Ophthalmic assistants
are needed to care for those in need. Though there are excellent
institutions providing quality education, hands on exposure to practical
aspects of Optometry is sometimes lacking. To bridge this gap Fellowship
programme in Optometry
was launched at The Eye Foundation on Sunday 18th December 2005.
Though the Optometry Fellowship course starts in the month of January
every year, interested candidates may apply any time of
the year. Short listed candidates will be called for an
entrance examination and personal interview in the month of December.

Completed application form along with copies of relevant certificates
with a DD of Rs 50/- (Fifty only) drawn in favour of " The Eye
Foundation " payable at "Coimbatore" should be sent before
15th of November.
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed Baccalaureate
in Optometry /
Diploma in Optometry or Diploma in Ophthalmic assistant courses with
an
aggregate of 50% marks. The Duration of the course would be I year for
those who have completed degree program in Optometry and 2 years for
those who have completed Diploma in Optometry / Ophthalmic assistant
program
Curriculum: During the fellowship students will be
rotated in all
subspecialities like Refraction, Contact lenses, Lasik, Biometry, Glaucoma,
Orthoptics, Retina, Cornea, Low vision and Community Ophthalmology.
Theory classes will also be held parallely covering all relevant aspects.
Clinical skills in using state of the art equipments in all
subspecialities would also be taught.
Stipend will be paid monthly to the candidates.
1st year: 2000 /- per month
2nd year: 2500 /- per month
Subsidized accommodation and boarding will also be provided.
Selection
Based on an objective evaluation and a personal interview.

optics, Optometric instrumentation, Ocular anatomy, Ocular diseases,
Systemic diseases associated with ocular conditions, Contact lenses
& Case
discussions.
Ophthalmic Nursing
For millions of people around the world, receiving quality eye care
is
an enormous struggle. Ophthalmic care has attained greater heights with
the availability of state of the art instrumentation and more
importantly qualified personnel. Good Nursing service is an essential
part of
successful patient care. Ophthalmology with different subspecialities
cannot deliver proper service with general nursing care. The necessity
for
specially trained nurses who could cater to the need of modern
Ophthalmology is long due.
The Eye Foundation, the post graduate institute of Ophthalmology is
conducting a two years programme in Ophthalmic nursing which will give
comprehensive training in all nursing aspects. The summary of the
programme is as follows:
Eligibility: Candidates who have passed plus two (any
group) are eligible to apply.
Curriculum for the first year
Semester I

- Pharmacology and principles of Microbiology including sterilisation

Curriculum for the second year
In the second year students will undergo intensive planned and
supervised practical training during their internship. The internship
period
helps to put into practice what has been taught and also helps to bridge
the gap between the theoretical perspective gained from academic
education and the practical experience acquired as a professional Ophthalmic
nurse. The practical experience helps trainees to become confident
about their professional skills.
Students have to work in all the essential aspects including
presentation, group teaching, and discussion. They are taught about
being
professional in planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care.

Examinations
Examinations at the end of each semester.
There will be three theory papers followed by practical examinations.
Stipend
First Year: Rs 250
Second Year: Rs 250
Caution deposit: NIL
(Will be refunded after successful completion of the two year course)
Board and Lodging
Trainees will be provided free-shared single accommodation in our
campus hostels.
Vegetarian food is provided at free of cost in the staff mess.
After Completion of course
Compulsory bond period one year.
During bond period candidate will be paid a stipend of Rs. 2,000/-
p.m. along with free accommodation and subsidised food.
