The profiles of the doctors at The Eye Foundation are detailed below.

Dr. D. Ramamurthy MD, MNAMS., the Medical Director of The Eye Foundation, acquired his post graduate degree, MD Ophthalmology from AIIMS, New Delhi and was accredited the Diplomate of National Board of Examination. He did a fellowship in Vitreoretinal surgery and also worked as a vitreoretinal consultant under Dr. S.S. Badrinath at Chennai for two years.

He is also the Medical Director of Thirumurthy Nethralaya at Avanashi Road, Tirupur and Lasik Centre (India) Pvt.Ltd, at Coimbatore

He is a trustee of Nethra Jyothi Trust, a registered charitable trust through which all the Eye camps and other charitable activities are directed

He has been trained at premier eye centers around the world in USA, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, Hongkong and Singapore.

He has been a guest speaker and invited faculty at various State, National and International level meetings and seminars.

He has delivered orations and guest lectures at:

· Australian Society of Cataract and Refractive surgery (AUSCRS) meet at Cairns, Australia in July 2000.

· Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology - Manila, Phillipines & Bangkok, Thailand.

· SAARC Ophthalmology meetings at Katmandu, Nepal and Colombo, Srilanka.

· Malaysian Ophthalmic Society, Kualalampur.

· Zyoptix Alliance Meeting at Seoul, South Korea .

· ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) meet at Paris, France.

· Conducted symposia on Lasik and Phacoemulsification at ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive surgery) meetings at San Diego,Boston and Washington.

· He has 16 scientific presentations to his credit.

Area of Specialization in Ophthalmology:

· Phacoemulsification or Sutureless out patient cataract surgery having done more than 20,000 phacoemulsification procedures, 8000 foldable intraocular lenses and nearly 1500 multifocal IOL's. He has installed the Sovereign Phacoemulsification system for the first time in South India to offer a microprocessor controlled systems for state of the art Cataract surgery. He has implanted more multifocal intraocular lenses than any other surgeon in Asia.

· One of the Pioneers in India in Lasik Refractive Correction, having done more than 12,000 Lasik procedures. In 1997, was the first to bring to India the CHIRON 217-Z Lasik workstation integrated with the Hansatome. This has been upgraded in 2002 with ZYOPTIX, which is able to deliver “Super Vision” -Vision beyond normal. In 2004 he has installed the Z – 100 Zyoptix Laser System integrated with the Excellus Hansatome System which is consider the most advanced Refractive Laser System available in the world today.

· He is one of the pioneers in Phakic IOL Implantation in this part of the world having

implanted more than 150 Verisyese Implants since 2002.

Awards:

· Dr. C.B. Bhaskaran Ophthalmic oration award by IMA Tamil Nadu for 2002.

· Dr. P. Siva Reddy Gold Medal Oration awarded by Andhra Pradesh Ophthalmic

Society for the year 2003.

· Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital Oration on Cataract Surgery in 2005.

· Retina Foundation Oration awarded by Gujarath Ophthalmic Society in 2005.

Personal:

Married to Dr. Chitra who is also an Ophthalmologist. Has one son and a daughter. Is a nature enthusiast and is a member of World Wild Life Fund (WWF). Has trekked to the base camp of Mount Everest, in the Alps in Switzerland, in the Black forest in Germany and in the Glaciers of New Zealand.

2. Dr. R. Chitra MBBS, DO., is the Managing Trustee at The Eye Foundation and wife of Dr. Ramamurthy. Her areas of speciality are phacoemulsification or sutureless out patient cataract surgery and refractive surgery in its latest setting. Glaucoma management, a leading cause of preventable blindness is also her speciality of interest. She is one of the pioneers in refractive surgery in India having performed over 15000 Lasik / Zyoptix procedures since December 1997. She has attended national and international conferences at ASCRS (American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) and ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery) and presented papers and conducted symposias on Cataract and Refractive Surgeries.

Dr. Shreesha Kumar MBBS,MS,DNB., a senior consultant at The Eye Foundation, is the specialist in the Cornea Department, having performed large numbers of corneal transplantation and managing critical corneal problems. His other areas of speciality interest are cataract and refractive surgery. He is in charge of Continued Medical Education at The Eye Foundation and the post graduate course, Diplomate of National Board of Examinations. He has partaken in National and International conferences with eminent papers and courses on cornea and anterior segment procedures.

4. Dr. Chandrashekhar MBBS,DO., is a consultant at The Eye Foundation with specialized interest in the Oculoplasty Department.

5. Dr. V.K. Srinivas Rao MBBS,DO,MS., is a consultant at The Eye Foundation with special interest in the anterior segment problems. He is in charge of the Community Service Programme at The Eye Foundation.
