In that case, when an individual loses their eye to any kind of traumatic experience cannot be taken easily, but still, there are no worries because an ocular prosthesis is there they could help you by restoring the appearance of a natural eye it is also called an artificial eye. The ocular prosthesis implantation is considered to be a cosmetic improvement and also supports emotions. The fitting process for the ocular prosthesis is a meticulous procedure that involves several steps to ensure the prosthesis fits comfortably and also makes it look natural. Not everyone is the same in that case each patient’s journey is unique, through proper understanding of the fitting process can help make it more predictable and comforting.

What is an ocular prosthesis?

An ocular prosthesis also called an artificial eye is a customized artificial eye which are specifically designed to fit into the socket of an individual. Generally, after removing the natural eye for any reason from the socket the ocular prosthesis will be placed inside.  The ultimate goal of ocular prosthesis is to restore the cosmetic appearance of an individual and that helps in regaining their self-confidence. Today’s modern prostheses come in highly detailed designs and customized tailoring that make the perfect match with the patient’s existing eye.

Step 1: Consultation and assessment

The first and foremost step in implanting the ocular prosthesis is consulting an ocularist, the detailed communication between the patient and the ocularist plays a vital role. During the consultation ocularist checks the patient’s medical history, the cause of eye loss, and the kind of expectations they have. Although the artificial eye not going to restore the vision it provides aesthetic and emotional benefits to an individual.

From the thorough examination of the eye socket, they will analyze the patient, check for proper healing after surgery, measure the size and shape of the eye socket, and also check for any movements or muscle activity in the remaining eye tissue. This initial assessment going to help an ocularist in designing the prosthesis that offers comfort, functionality, and aesthetics.

Step 2: Creating a custom mold

Once the assessment is done the ocularist will begin the process of creating a custom mold of the eye socket this is one of the essential steps because each individual’s eye anatomy going to be different in that case the prosthesis should be a perfect fit inside the socket to avoid the irritation or complications. The mold is generally created using an impression material and this material hardens quickly, capturing the exact dimensions and contours of the socket. This mold is the foundation for an individual's artificial eye.

Step 3: Designing the prosthesis

After the mold was made the next step was to design the actual prosthesis. Here the ocularist uses the impression of a mold to craft a wax model and that replicates the size and shape of the final prosthetic eye. Then this wax model is placed over the socket of an individual to check the fit, comfort, and movement. From there the essential adjustments are made based on the essentiality of the model that fits properly without causing any discomfort.

Step 4: Painting and detailing the prosthesis

The most important step in the fitting process is the painting and detailing to match the patient’s natural eye. This is going to be the transformative step in the creation of prostheses. Ocularist carefully observes the color, pattern, and texture of an individual iris because it varies from one another. With the help of fine brushes and special paints, they going to replicate these details on the prosthetic eye.

Step 5: Final fitting and adjustments

Once the prosthesis is completed and the ocular prosthesis from there the fitting and adjustments procedure starts up. The ocularist will insert the prosthesis and check whether it ensures the comfort of an individual. During this session, the ocularist will check the appearance, alignment, and movement of the prosthesis
