If you suspect glaucoma or have been diagnosed, you are in the right place. At The Eye Foundation, Bellandur (Bangalore), we specialise in diagnosing and managing glaucoma in its every stage from early detection to surgical intervention and long-term follow-up.
What is Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions where the optic nerve gets damaged—often due to raised intra-ocular pressure (IOP) or poor fluid drainage in the eye. Left unchecked, it can cause irreversible vision loss.
Why it's called the "silent thief of sight"
Because early glaucoma often shows no noticeable symptoms until vision is already impacted, making routine eye checks critical.
Who is at risk?
Adults above 40 years of age
Family history of glaucoma
High eye pressure, myopia, diabetes/hypertension
Eye trauma, steroid use, narrow-angle anatomy
Signs you should not ignore:
Gradual loss of peripheral (side) vision
Tunnel vision in advanced stages
Sudden eye pain, redness, blurred vision (in acute angle closure)
Treatment Options
At The Eye Foundation, we customize your plan based on type of glaucoma, stage, eye health and lifestyle goals. Here are the major options:
Medical Management (Eye Drops & Pills)
Often first line for open-angle glaucoma: eye drops reduce fluid production or improve drainage. Regular compliance and monitoring are key.
Laser Treatments
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) for open-angle glaucoma: improves drainage through trabecular meshwork.
Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI) for narrow-angle glaucoma: creates an alternate escape pathway for fluid.
Minimally-Invasive & Surgical Procedures
Trabeculectomy / drainage-valve surgeries for advanced or uncontrolled glaucoma.
Micro-invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) newer options for selected cases.
Lifelong Monitoring & Rehabilitation
Even with treatment, glaucoma is a chronic condition. Ongoing eye pressure checks, optic-nerve imaging, visual-field testing, adherence to medications and lifestyle support are essential.

We recently visited The Eye Foundation Hospital for my mother’s Glaucoma treatment with Dr. Karthika, and the entire experience was excellent. The hospital staff were extremely caring and professional, guiding us through every step of the process with patience.
A separate room was provided for her comfort, which was very clean and well-maintained. The diagnosis and treatment were completed smoothly within a few hours, and follow-up visits were handled with great attention to detail.
After just a few weeks, my mother’s eye pressure is stable, and her vision has improved noticeably. We’re very satisfied with the treatment and care received at The Eye Foundation. Highly recommended for anyone looking for Glaucoma treatment in Bangalore!

I recently visited The Eye Foundation for Glaucoma treatment under Dr. Srinivas Rao. Overall, my experience was very positive. The diagnosis and treatment were handled with great care, and I truly felt I was in capable hands. My eye pressure has improved, and I can already notice better comfort and clarity in my vision.
Dr. Srinivas Rao explained the treatment process clearly and ensured I understood every step. The medical team and support staff, including Mr. Shivashankara, were kind and attentive throughout my visits.
If the clinic can slightly reduce waiting times and streamline communication about minor details, the overall patient experience would be exceptional. Still, I’m very satisfied with the results and would confidently recommend The Eye Foundation for Glaucoma treatment in Bangalore.
Glaucoma cannot be "cured" in the sense of reversing all damage already done, but with timely treatment its progression can often be stopped or significantly slowed, helping preserve vision.
If you have risk-factors (family history, high eye pressure, narrow angles etc), we recommend a full glaucoma screening once a year or more frequently as advised. Follow-ups are essential.
For many early and moderate glaucoma patients, eye-drops are a foundational treatment. However, lasers or surgery may become necessary if pressure isn't controlled or damage is progressing.
As with any procedure, there are risks, but glaucoma lasers and surgeries at skilled centres are safe and help protect vision. The benefits of preventing further vision loss typically outweigh risks.
In advanced glaucoma we offer more aggressive management laser or surgery, combined with optimal medication and close monitoring to stabilise the condition and preserve remaining vision.
