Corneal diseases - Eye Donation Rally in Coimbatore

Coimbatore Society of Ophthalmic surgeons organized an awareness rally on ‘Eye Donation’ in the city on Sunday, the 3rd September 2017. Surgeons, students and Eye bank staff from Coimbatore participated in the rally. Corneal diseases constitute a significant cause of visual impairment and blindness in the developing world. The number of corneal transplants done is far less than the actual requirement in India. This is largely due to the inadequate number of corneas collected and the rally was organized to impart the significance of Eye donation to the public. Mr. Annadurai, Assistant Commissioner of Coimbatore Corporation flagged off the rally.
