A New Benchmark in Eye Care Facilities

The new block, which was completed and inaugurated recently is the next to the current one and is a 60,000 sq. ft., six-storey building. Along with the existing 70,000 sq. ft, the facility now stands at over 1.2 lakh sq. ft, and the hospital has the capacity to treat up to 1,300 patients a day against an earlier capacity of 800+ patients.

The floors are designed to cater to specific specialties:

  • 1st and 2nd Floors: Cataract and cornea services, the 2nd floor has oculoplasty services as well.
  • 3rd Floor: Specializing in refractive and LASIK services, with a fully-equipped LASIK operation theatre.
  • 4th Floor: Has a pediatric ophthalmology center with four physicians, neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma, and a myopia clinic. This floor also contains a children’s play area.
  • 5th Floor:  Specialized on the retina and laser treatments.

Enhanced Facilities for Comprehensive Care

The expanded facility includes:

  • 40 consultation rooms and 60 optometry cubicles.
  • 10 sophisticated Operation Theaters out of which 3 specialized for Cataract surgeries.
  • 15 investigation rooms and ophthalmic labs.
  • 40 executive inpatient rooms with inpatient services in the existing block and the capacity to admit 100 patients at one time.
  • Homey day-care units, 4 optical centres and pharmacy services.
  • A multi-level parking for 120 cars and another 200 two-wheeler parking spaces.

Streamlined Patient Experience

Patients who visit the new block will be received by a team of 8 receptionists in the large lobby. For basic eye care services, patients will be referred to the existing block while for specific services, they will be shown to the respective floor. Every floor is independent and self-sufficient, so patients get all the treatments they need on the same floor.

Affordable and Charitable Eye Care

Dr. Ramamurthy also stressed that the prices of treatments in the new block will be the same as in the current ones. The Eye Foundation continues with its policy of affordable eye care, performing 15 cataract surgeries for free through Rajalakshmi Nethralaya every day. These services are also taken further to underprivileged patients through partnerships with organizations such as Rotary.

“We have a mission that no patient should leave the hospital without being treated,” Dr. Ramamurthy added while explaining the Foundation’s commitment to providing high quality eye care to everyone.

The new block is a major development in The Eye Foundation story and underlines its status as a provider of state-of-art eye care services.
